Terms of Service

This document establishes the operational guidelines and user expectations for utilizing the Family Tree Builder web application (“the Service”), operated by StoryLegend. The Service is a browser-based tool for writers, world-builders, OC creators, and tabletop RPG players to build visual relationship maps and family trees for fictional characters. It is intended exclusively for creative and personal use.

Accessing and utilizing the Service signifies your complete acceptance of these established terms. Disagreement with any provision necessitates immediate cessation of use. These Terms apply to all visitors and users regardless of whether an account has been created.

An account is not required to use the Service. Without an account, all tree data is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage; we have no access to it and cannot recover it if lost. Creating an account is optional and unlocks cloud sync, multi-device access, sharing, and paid features.

Account holders bear full responsibility for:

• •Safeguarding login credentials
• •Monitoring account activities
• •Preventing unauthorized access

You agree to notify us immediately at support@storylegend.app of any unauthorized use. StoryLegend disclaims liability for any damages resulting from account misuse or credential compromise.

Users are prohibited from:

• •Engaging in unlawful activities through the Service
• •Violating third-party intellectual property, privacy, or other rights
• •Uploading content that is defamatory, obscene, or harassing
• •Compromising the operational integrity or security of the Service
• •Reverse-engineering, scraping, or extracting Service software
• •Using automated tools to create accounts or generate excessive server load
• •Reselling or redistributing access to the Service without prior written consent

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate this policy at our sole discretion, with or without notice.

You retain full ownership of all family tree data, character information, images, and other content you create or upload through the Service. By using the Service you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and transmit your content solely to provide the Service to you. We do not sell or share your content with third parties except as required to operate the Service or as required by law.

Cloud data is retained for as long as your account remains active. Upon account deletion, all associated cloud data is permanently removed within 30 days. Locally stored data (no-account mode) is never sent to our servers and remains solely within your control.

You are solely responsible for ensuring your content does not:

• •Infringe any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property right
• •Violate any applicable law or regulation
• •Contain personal data of identifiable living individuals without their consent
• •Include malicious code, viruses, or other harmful material

Users may generate share links to make their trees accessible to others. Free users may create public share links, viewable by anyone with the link in read-only mode. Pro users may additionally create private links and invite collaborators with granular permission levels — viewer, commenter, or editor — on a per-tree basis.

You are responsible for managing access to your trees. StoryLegend is not liable for content submitted by collaborators you have invited or for trees inadvertently made public.

• •Application software, design, and branding remain the exclusive property of StoryLegend
• •User-created content — trees, characters, uploaded images — maintains full user ownership
• •No intellectual property rights in the Service are transferred through platform usage

Violation of these Terms may result in immediate account suspension or permanent termination at StoryLegend's sole discretion. Accounts terminated for cause are not eligible for refunds on any unused portion of a paid plan.

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” with no warranties of any kind, express or implied. StoryLegend does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation and disclaims liability for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of data. You are encouraged to export your trees regularly as a precaution. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding that claim.

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless StoryLegend and its officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, or expenses — including reasonable legal fees — arising out of your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

These Terms and conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Jamaica. Any disputes arising out of or related to the use of the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Jamaica. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

StoryLegend retains the right to update these Terms periodically. When we do, we will revise the effective date on this page. For material changes we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users via the email address on file. Continued usage of the Service after revised Terms are posted implies acceptance of the updated conditions.

Platform access is exclusively permitted for individuals aged 18 and above. By using the Service you represent that you meet this age requirement. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will terminate that account promptly.

The Service may reference, link to, or integrate with external third-party services. StoryLegend bears no responsibility for the content, availability, or practices of any third-party service. Each operates under its own terms and privacy policies.
